Thoughts About Paying Attention to God
We should be attentive to God’s presence, as He may want to bless us.
2 Corinthians 9:8 “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
We know that God is around us at all times. We also know that as His children, He wants to bless us. Therefore, we should be attentive to His presence and be prepared to be blessed.
Genesis 49:25 (NIV) – “Blessings come in many forms. We can be blessed with good health, a fine family, a comfortable home, a good job, close friends, and an excellent church. We can also be blessed with spiritual gifts such as leadership, discernment, prophesy, intercession, healing, and a servant’s heart. The first set of gifts is to be enjoyed. The second set of gifts of the spirit is to be utilized in service through God to our fellow man.”
Each day we need to be attentive to the opportunities to enjoy and use these gifts. We may be simply called to be a parent and guide our children, enjoying their growth as a child of God. We may be called to sit back and enjoy a sunset with the sounds of life abounding around us. Or, we may be called to help someone through counsel, compassion, prayer, and the providing of food, shelter, clothing, and money.
Acts 3: 24-25 (NIV) – “Indeed, beginning with Samuel, all the prophets who have spoken have foretold these days. And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed’”.
God’s message to us through the thousands of years in the Bible and, every week in church, is to be attentive to Him when He wants to bless or call us. We should always be looking for God in everything we do. Not being afraid to use His name to bless strangers. We must always be ready to catch a blessing and give one when the opportunity arises.
Gracious God, our Heavenly Father, thank you for all the wonderful blessings we have received. Help us to share them with others. Guide us in our daily walk with you to the abundant blessings that are close at hand if we only pay attention. We pray this in Your Son’s precious name, Jesus! Amen!
God Bless
