Kindness Hasn’t Passed Away

Kindness hasn’t Passed Away!

From, Sam Horn

A participant in a Talking On Eggshells workshop asked, “Is rudeness getting worse?” I told him, “Well, a study by McKinsey says YES. In fact, they reported, ‘Incivility is on the rise,’ at least partially because of the anonymity of virtual communication.

Seems when some people can’t be seen, they feel free to be mean.

At some level, they think there won’t be any consequences, so they say whatever is top of mind.

The thing is, there ARE always consequences to what we say and do.

Our words have ripple effects – for better or for worse.

We have the power to make or break someone’s day by what we choose to say.

That’s why it’s so important to pause BEFORE letting loose what’s on the tip of our tongue (or fingers) to ask:

‘Does this need to be said?

Is there a kinder way to say this?

How can I say this in a way that will help instead of hurt?’

As Seth Godin says, ‘Kindness has not left the building.’

Not only has kindness not left the building, it’s up to each of us to keep the light of kindness ON in the building.”
