Thoughts About Seeking God
from the desk & heart of Dan Fick
Where is God in your life?
Psalm 63:1 (NLT) – “O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.”
This is an age-old question – “Where is God?” Not so much a location, but as a presence. Sometimes we put God on a shelf until we run into trouble. Then we call out to our Father God for help. Of course, God wants us to seek Him in times of distress, adversity and misfortune. God is the ultimate First Responder. God want us to realize that He is omnipresent, meaning that He is everywhere, all the time.
Joshua 1:9 (NLT) – “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
God is everywhere, and everywhere includes at our shoulder as we walk along the Way. He is in the chair next to us while we discuss His Word in a Bible study. He is sitting on the bed when we are reading our children a Bible story. He is the first to greet us in the morning, and the One who kisses us goodnight when we lay down at the end of the day. Our Father God has billions of children that He created and has promised to care for and love forever. So, He has to be everywhere all the time.
Ephesians 3:18 (NLT) – “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.”
However, if we do not recognize that God is with us all of the time, we may wait for His presence. Instead, God wants us to seek Him. He wants our prayers so that He may give us His answer to our prayers. He wants us to call upon Him to seek His advice. God is right here waiting for our call. He is the Son, Jesus Christ living in our hearts. He is the Holy Spirit guiding our conscience. He is in the nature of all the animals, trees, flowers, rivers and mountains of this world that He created. He is everywhere; we just have to ask.
Matthew 7:7 (NLT) – “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.”
With God everywhere in our lives, waiting to answer our prayers, listening for our cries for help, then He should be first in our lives. He will show us how to love and cherish our spouse forever. He will teach us how to care for and raise our children. He will help us to make good friends into brothers and sisters and brothers and sisters into good friends. He will provide the wisdom for us to be successful in our life’s work. We just have to ask and then follow His lead.
Isaiah 48:17 (NLT) – “This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow.’”
Gracious God, Our Heavenly Father, thank you for all of the wonderful blessings You bestow upon us. Teach us to trust You, seek You and follow You. Help us to put You at the head of our family. We pray this in Your Son’s Precious Name, Jesus! Amen
